Andrew Li

Mentis Instructor

Andrew debated for 4 years at Germantown Friends School, where he founded his school’s debate team. He has been ranked #3 nationally by the National Symposium for Debate and has qualified 3 times to the Tournament of Champions (TOC), earning an auto-qualification for 2026. He won the UPenn Debate Tournament, won the Harvard Round Robin (top 15 teams in the country were invited), finaled the Harvard Debate Tournament, finaled the Blue Key Round Robin (top 12 teams in the country were invited), and received a TOC bid at every tournament he attended since the second semester of his sophomore year. Andrew is an Executive Director of NOVA Debate Camp and has coached teams to win the Seattle Tournament, the Digital Speech and Debate Tournament, and acquire 2 bids to the TOC. Andrew serves as Co-President of his school’s math team and has been competing in math competitions for over 6 years now, qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (top 2.5% of AMC scorers) since his freshman year. Andrew placed 3rd in the US and received an International Honorable Mention at last year’s Purple Comet! Math Meet, is currently ranked #1 in the Philadelphia Math League, and has published quantitative research in the Stanford University Journal of Science, Technology, and Society. In middle school, Andrew scored a 24/25 on the 2022 AMC 8 (Distinguished Honor Roll) and was the Co-Champion of his MathCounts Chapter Competition.

Claire Sim

Mentis Instructor

Claire is a current senior at the Bergen County Academies, where she is Co-Captain of the debate team. She has over 6 years of debate experience and has most notably qualified for the Tournament of Champions (Top 1%) 2 times, earning an auto-qualification her sophomore year and been ranked as high as 6th nationally by the National Debate Coaches Association. She also experienced success at prestigious national tournaments, such as championing the Princeton Classic tournament and reaching finals of the University of Pennsylvania tournament. She loves sharing her passion for debate with others; Claire serves as an Executive Director of NOVA Debate Camp and a mentor/author for Women in Debate. She is so excited to meet students and spread the journey of learning!
